Rembrance From the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund web site:

I was sitting thinking of you today and how much you are still in my heart. I cry silent tears no one understands. I remember our time together and wish it could have been longer. I remember the day the Army came and gave mom the news of your death, the scream that floated through the air, the terrible look on her face when she told us you were gone. I can't get it out of my mind. I can't bear to hear Taps being played. All I know is I miss you still after forty-eight years. The pain has eased, not missing your smile, your soft spoken voice, your loving hugs, or your words of encouragement. It brings me some comfort to write this for you because the love we have lives in me and I am passing it to my children and grandchildren. I am keeping my promise, Daddy.
