Date of Birth January 17, 1931 (Noted on his Grave Marker, however, Jimmie’s DD Form 1300, Report of Casualty, has his birth year as 1930).

Twenty years of U.S. Army Service
SGT Smiley served in both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
Vietnam Tour of Duty Started March 6, 1966 (Date departed for Vietnam)
Killed by hostile fragmentation wounds twelve days later.
Died due to multiple fragmentation wounds while in the Binh Duong Province, Republic of South Vietnam. U.S. Army DD Form 1300 states “Died in Vietnam as result of intracranial hemorrhage, thoracic cage injury with internal damage and abdominal wounds received in hostile ground action.
