THE BRIDGE AT CAU MOUNG CHOI
I REMEMBER BOBBY SLOAN AND JOEY KEARSE, BOTH OF WHOM WERE MEMBERS OF 2ND PLATOON, "D" COMPANY, 86TH ENGINEER BATALLION. I SERVED WITH THEM AND WILL ALWAYS HAVE A PLACE FOR THEM IN MY HEART. THEIR LOSS WITH THE COLLAPSE OF THE CAU MOUNG CHOI BRIDGE WAS ONE OF SEVERAL TRAGIC EVENTS WHICH OCCURED WITH THIS UNIT DURING 1967 AND WHICH WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY MEMORY. I AM PROUD TO HAVE TO HAVE SERVED WITH BOBBY.

Sloan enjoyed working on automobiles. He planned to buy a new car and become a mechanic when he got back from Vietnam. Sloan graduated from Bok Vocational High School in December 1965 and was drafted into the Army. The 21-year-old specialist four, a Pioneer scout and combat construction specialist with the 86th Engineer Battalion, died May 8, 1967, in Vietnam when a bridge on which he was working collapsed. He was survived by his mother, stepfather and two sisters. Bobby lived on Sout Alden Street, in West Philadelpia. Source: Philadelphia Daily News 10/26/1987
