SP4 Wayne Rochowicz served with the 175th Assault Helicopter, 214th Aviation Battalion, 164th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade at Vinh Long, RVN. His tour began on 13 June 1971.

In Vietnam, he was stationed at Vinh Long, serving as a communication specialist in avionics. He wrote home how nice some of the people were and how wrong some of the war was. He was looking forward to rest leave and especially getting home to a good home-cooked meal. Wayne always shared the pretzels he received from home with the Vietnamese people.

Wayne was a member of a helicopter communications unit and was killed at a military airfield when struck by a rotor as he walked around the aircraft.

Wayne 'Rock' Rochowicz was born in Reading and was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed swimming and fishing, the seashore, ice skating, and playing the accordian. He was a great lover of dogs and also enjoyed baseball, football, and basketball.

Wayne graduated from Reading High School in 1966 and Penn State University in 1970 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Penn State Alumni Association.

Wayne worked at Western Electric as an electrical engineer for several months before being drafted. He was married shortly before being sent to Vietnam.

Surviving at the time were his wife, Kathy, his mother, father, and two sisters.

He was in Vietnam less than three months.  He was 22 years old.

SP4 Rochowicz was buried at Gethseme Cemetery in Laureldale, Pennsylvania.  Find A Grave Memorial:
