2nd Lt. Kroger was killed during the Battle for LZ Xray, Ia Drang, RVN, killed during the 2nd day of battle. He led 1st Platoon, C Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment.

He was interred in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Cook County, Illinois, Plot: Section 15.
