Last Known Activity
ZSP4 Komarowski served 3rd Platoon, Company B, 2nd Battallion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division beginning in August 1969.

Prior to his death he was awarded the National Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Badge with rifle and grenade bars, and the Sharpshooter Badge with automatic rifle bar. His posthumous awards are the Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device (First Oak Leaf Cluster), the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and from the government of the Republic of Vietnam, the Military Merit Medal and the Gallantry Cross with Palm.

Bronze Star
Bronze Star with First Oak Leaf Cluster:

For heroism in connection with ground operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Specialist Four Komarowski distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 6 February 1970 while serving with Company B, 2nd Battallion, 1st Infantry.

On that date, the company was in its night defensive position near Loc Son when it came under attack by a highly trained enemy sapper team. Reacting immediately, Specialist Komarowski began directing effective retaliatory fire on the advancing insurgents.

With complete disregard for personal safety, Specialist Komarowski continued to point out enemy positions for his comrades until he was mortally wounded by an exploding rocket propelled by a grenade round. His courageous and timely actions were directly responsible for minimizing friendly casualties and instrumental in thwarting the enemy attack.

Specialist Four Komarowski's personal heroism, professional competence, and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service, and reflected great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.
