My Friend - Brother, in Arms

This is a picture, of Paul, on the left and myself, outside, of our 2, man bunker, where we lived, for a short while. Paul was like, an older brother, to me. Him, at 22 and me, at 19. I remember, his brotherly advise, his everlasting smile and his Massachusetts accent. He was always, writing, to someone back home, he missed, his friends and family and talked, about them, all the time. I will always, remember him and that big smile, that brighten all the days, that we were together.

brother, in arms
Mornin' Pal! It feels good, to say the words, we greeted each other, with every morning, in 'Nam.' It seems only yesterday, that we were, making our plans, to meet out, at your 'Cape' house, after we got home. You, never made it. It's taken me, a long time to write, something here. I've wanted to. Couldn't. Your memory, is very much alive, for me, today. Here, just a day, or so, before the 39th, anniversary, of all, of us losing you, I had to add, my thoughts, to your memorial page. The day, I got the news, that you were gone, I was already, back, in 'The World,' planning the rest, of my life. You didn't get, the chance. It still grieves me, so very much. You are, in my thoughts, every day. God bless you, my friend.

Remembering, a nice guy, who, didn't come 'home,' with us...
Paul came, into the unit, while I, was a 'shortimer.' We both had, Irish backgrounds and he was, a good soldier. We both, cleared roads. I was, a lucky one, I made it, back, now it is almost 39, years, later. We're all a little older, probably, a little bigger, with more gray hair. (or maybe less hair) May God bless, our old buddies, that weren't as fortunate, as the rest of us, bless their families, for the ultimate sacrifices, thay have paid. Lets keep them, in our prayers and in our hearts.
