SP4 Becerra was the crew chief of a UH-1H (#68-15262) that was brought down by Non-Artillery launched or static weapons containing explosive charges. (RPG-7, 7.62MM) killing all crew and passengers
  
He was honored along with the rest of the crew at Arlington National Cemetery and interred at Greenlawn Cemetery in 2001.

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the Act of Congress approved 2 July 1926, a Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary heroism while participating in aerial flight is awarded posthumously to: Staff Sergeant Rudy M. Becerra (then Specialist Four) United States Army, for heroism on 24 March 1970, while a member of the 170th Aviation Company, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade, Vietnam.
