Harold was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania on the 3rd of August, 1948.  He was the son of Rev. Harold Basehore and his wife Florence..  He grew up in the Chruchtown area of Lancaster County and the Quentin/Cornwall area of Lebanon County.  He attended the Churchtown Elementary School and Cornwall Junior and Senior High Schools.  In school he was part of the support group for theater productions and played in the band.  Harold was a member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church where he sanh in the choir, and was a member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America.

He entered military service on the 20th of May, 1968.  He applied for Officer Candidate School and upon graduation was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry.  After advanced training he arrived in Vietnam on the 4th of October, 1969 and was assigned to Company G of the 75th Rangers.  He fell in action as the result of fragmentation wounds from a mortar round while participating in the first stages of the Cambodian incursion. Besides his parents, he was survived by a sister, Lynette; brother, Gareth; wife, Carol; and two year old daughter, Dawn.
