T/SGT ALBERT BERGSTROM ENTERED THE SERVICE ON 23 NOVEMBER 1942 AND WAS ASSIGNED TO HEADQUARTERS COMPANY, 1ST BATTALION, 330TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 83RD INFANTRY DIVISION. T/SGT BERGSTROM SERVED SERVED IN EUROPE THROUGH 5 CAMPAIGNS AND WAS WOUNDED IN GERMANY ON 15 APRIL 1945. ON 31 MAY 1945 BERGSTROM RETURNED TO THE STATES AND WAS DISCHARGED AT FORT GEORGE MEADE, MARYLAND ON 5 APRIL 1946.

Oakland, MD -- Albert L. "Shorty" Bergstrom, 89, of Hotel Drive, Oakland, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born on June 16, 1911 in Davis, WV, he was the son of the late Fredolph and Thekla V. (Anderson) Bergstrom. He was also preceded in death by his wife, M. Ruth (Watring) Bergstrom in 1984 and by three brothers and three sisters.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Davis, WV. He was the service station manager for Oakview Motors, Oakland until his retirement and the Ray Teets Garage, Oakland.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce A. Chaney and Carol L. Savage and husband Terry, all of Oakland; three sisters, Eloise Bachtel, Eleanor Jenkins and Elsie Bible, all of Davis, WV and two granddaughters Christine Cropp, Alexandria, VA and Bethany Savage, Oakland.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday. Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, WV from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Services will be held at the Hinkle Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fred Soltow officiating. Interment will be in the Davis Cemetary.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 378, Oakland, MD 21550.
