He was added to the wall in 2014. Michael Noel Faherty, a native of County Galway, Ireland, immigrated to the United States and joined the army from Boston. During his service in Vietnam, he contracted blackwater fever, a complication of malaria. He died from the disease shortly after his return to Ireland. Accordingly, his name is being added to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. Sources include the Irish Veterans Newsletter, Issue 8, St Patrick's Day 2014.

SP5 Faherty was born in Galway Ireland on 30 December 1946. He went into the United States Army in Boston while living in Marlboro, Massachusetts April 20, 1966 to take his basic training at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He remained there to take his Advanced Individual Training in Motion Picture Photography in the School Brigade from 28 July until 19 December 1966 when he took leave before going to Vietnam. He arrived in Vietnam 4 Feb 1967 and was assigned to Headquarters Company, United States Army, Vietnam. He went home on a compassionate leave to be with his widowed mother and shortly after his arrival home, he was diagnosed with malaria. He died as a result of cerebral malaria and blackwater fever on 25 July 1968. He is buried in Rahoon Cemetery, Galway City, Ireland.
