Pvt. Fryling enlisted in the Army November 1949.

In Korea, he served with M Company, 3rd Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment (attached to the 19th Infantry Regiment), 24th Infantry Division. 1st and 3rd Battalions, 29th Infantry went into battle by 27 July.

He was killed in action near Chinju, Nam River Area, South Korea during the Battle of the Pusan Perimeter.

He was interred in Union Cemetery, Bakersfield, California.
