PRIVATE FIRST CLASS CLELLAN CLAYTON DAVIS SON OF ROMIE AND MACIL DAVIS OF KETTLE, ROANE COUNTY WEST VIRGINIA WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 23 FEBRUARY 1945 IN GERMANY. PFC DAVIS SERVED WITH "G" COMPANY 324TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 44TH INFANTRY DIVISION. CLELLAN IS BURIED AT THE BILLY HUNT CEMETERY IN KETTLE. EXCERPT FROM HIS OBITUARY STATED HE HAD RECEIVED 2 PURPLE HEARTS BUT NO FURTHER INFO ON THE MATTER.

Pfc. Clellan C. Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Romie Davis, of Kettle, was killed in action, in France, February 23, 1945. He was serving with Co. G, 324th Infantry, of Gen Patch's Seventh army, and was killed by fire from enemy machine guns as a member of a night raiding party. He was buried in a U. S. Military Cemetery in eastern France.
