Specialist Shane Hasan Ahmed, 31, of Chesterfield, Mich., died Nov. 14, while conducting operations in Watahpur district, Konar province, Afghanistan.

Ahmed was an Infantryman assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).  He joined the Army in April 2007 and arrived at Fort Campbell in December 2009. 

His awards and decorations include:  Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Mobilization device.

Ahmed is survived by his wife, Eva Vasquez; step-daughter, Evita Vasquez; step-son, Evan Vasquez, of Lebanon, Tenn. and his parents, Jamal and Subra Ahmed of Chesterfield, Mich.
