 Additional Information
Last Known Activity
Sergeant Desautels was a member of Company A, 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Kunu-ri, North Korea on December 1, 1950, totally surrounded by Chinese Communist forces in an area known as "The Gauntlet."

He was presumed dead on February 19, 1954. His remains were not recovered.

It was later reported (by the Chinese) that he had died in Mukden (now Shenyang), China and was buried at an undisclosed site.  Desautels and his fellow captives had been marched north to a POW compound known as Camp 5, near Pyoktong, on the North Korean side of the border with China.
