Private Clifford Bartell served with Service Company, 31st Infantry Regiment in the Philippines.

He died as a POW of the Japanese at Camp O'Donnel, Luzon, Philippines.  64 of his fellow soldiers died in captivity at the hands of the Japanese due to cruelty, mistreatment, and malnurishment if not outright savagery and murder. .
