Staff Sergeant Elmer Bowen served with B Company, 1st Battalion,  31st Infantry Regiment, Philippine Division. in the P.I.  He served with a machine gununit. He was captured and died as a POW in Camp O'Donnel, Luzon, Philippines. 

He had served in the infantry for some time.  Earliest reference is at Fort Clayton, Balboa, Panama Canal Zone in 1930
