PVT Frank Allen Neal (RA 26784299) was postumously promoted to the rank of PFC after going Missing In Action (MIA) on July 28, 1950. He was declared presumably dead on December 31, 1953. His listed birthday is August 8, 1933 in Webster City, Iowa (Near Hamilton). He would have had to enlist just after his birthday in August 1949 in order to be with the unit he was with on July 28, 1950. The reason being is that that unit (The 25th Reconnassaince Company of the 25th Infantry Division) was not committed to the war until it left Yokohama, Japan on July 13, 1950 arriving at Pusan, Korea on July 17, 1950 and it was immediately committed. Eleven days later, on July 28, 1950, while fighting along the Pusan Perimeter in South Korea, PVT Frank Allen Neal was Missing In Action. That means, considering all these dates, that PVT Neal was. in reality, only 16 when he enlisted in the Army. Not an uncommon event for lots of young men, lying about their age. That would also mean that young PVT Neal was one month away (actually, 11 days) from turning 17 when he went Missing In Action (MIA).
From his sister, Linda Meacham: "Frank Neal was mu brother. He was a good looking fun sort of person. I remember the last time I saw him. He came home on leave and we had such fun with him. As we kids were sleeping he left the house for the last time. He put candy bars on our beds with a note that said he would see us later. He went to Korea and was reported missing in action the first day on the front lines. He was never found. It was a tragic loss to our family and I am so glad that he will be remembered on the Korean Memorial. Sincerely Linda Meacham a loving sister."
