Fasick, William Francis, Cpl

William Francis Fasick was born on April 8, 1928 in Montgomery, Pennsylvania.  He is the son of Frank A. Fasick and Mary Fasick.  I have traced his genealogy back to the 1700's in Ireland.
There is record of William Francis Fasick serving on the USS Wyoming (AG17) in 1946,47.  I'm guessing he entered the Navy in 1945 as there is record of this being in Lower Merion, Pennsylvania.  After training he was put on the newly reconditioned Wyoming and as of July of 1945 the Wyoming (AG17) became an experimental gunnery ship with what soon became the Operational Development Force, and served in that capacity in the Atlantic until August 1947.  When his enlistment was up with the Navy and he then enlisted in the Army on January 19, 1948.  The record shows he was a S2C on 30 March 1946 while on the USS Wyoming (AG-17). His Army Service number was RA 13265390 and he enlisted in the Infantry. His Navy Service number was 247-96-00.   He probably did not have any Basic Training, it being waived because of his prior service.  William became a member of the 25th Reconnaissance Company of the 25th Infantry Division, probably in 1948.  That units assignment was at that time in Osaka, Japan pulling Occupation Duty with MP operations.  In early 1950 they were sent to Korea and got in on the fighting early and stayed a long time.  William lasted until August 12, 1950 when he became KIA in South Korea.  This was on the Pusan Perimeter, Southwest Town or area known as Kogan-ni.  He was known as "Bill."  He was just 22 years of age.

He was buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Moorestown, Burlington County, New Jersey.

Here is a remembrance from his niece, Mary Prophet:  "William was my Uncle.  I was born in 1952, two years after he died.  I always remember my grand mom being so sad.  Uncle Bill was her only son.  I wish I could find out more about him.  I have an Uncle still alive who was in the Korean War.  He is 89 years old.  We lost my Uncle's me(d)als in a robbery.  I wish I had them.  He is [in] my thoughts always."

From a War Diary for August 1950, 25th Reconnaissance Company, dated 14 November 1950 it has the following entry:  "On 12 August 1950 mission remained the same.  At approximately 0300 hours the two tanks from second platoon that had set up a road block at Kogan-ni was attacked by strong enemy guerilla (sic) forces.  Fore fight ensued and tanksx had to withdraw to Company Command Post area.  There were four casualties.  Two men wounded in action and two men killed in action.  At approximately 0700 hours two tanks of the third platoon, one tank from the second platoon, plus Headquarters tank set out to engage the enemy in vicinity of Kogan-ni.  Enemy was engaged with two tanks going forward, vicinity Haep-yong to silence machine gun reported in that vicinity.  One man killed im action resulted.  All tanks withdrew, recovering bodies of killed in action." - Casualty Report Attachment dated 22 October 1950 has location of loss Kogan-ni.  This report was submitted by one who knew Bill, a Patrick Shaughnessy.
