As of November 2009, can no longer care for myself, moving to Colorado Veterans Home, Florence July 7th,
As a child of mixed race growing up in a Minority driven neighborhood (then called East Denver, now called North East Denver) in Denver Colorado it was quite difficult. My parents, father Chinese and mother, Japanese (I am ¾ Chinese and ¼ Japanese). My father came to this country at the age of 14. Got a job in SF, to learn how to cook, went into the Army for
four years, got an honerable discharge and started work at the Lotus Room - at Speer and Banock in Denver.
Had a pretty normal childhood, typical asthma, colds, relatively. Army career (68-89) was uneventful, no broken bones, glaucoma, normal dental checkups. Was diagnosed with Klinefelters Syndrome at age 27, was on (HRT) for 13 years (wow did that mess up my mind). Then in 2006 everything was just great, flu and pneumonia shots every year, running two miles twice a week but then…..
Went to the Dr. April 18, 2006, for a foot callus, the NP prescribed the wrong meds and I woke up three months later with dialysis tubes coming out of my body and told I was in Kidney Failure, under went dialysis. I had a MRI July 15,2006, Dialysis tubes were pulled out July 22 In July I was told I had a compression fracture of L1-5 and needed back surgery (46 screws and a titanium rod placed in my back), ( examined 7/22 for MRI, surgery 7/24 woke up 10/22 out of rehab, 2nd Rehab 11/22, 2006), returned to work 1/3/2007. the scary thing is I don't/can't recall any thing from 7/25 to 11/22,
I wanted to let all of you know that we successfully helped our previous FSC Veterans' Committee Chair, Tim Woo, over the career finish line and into medical retirement. Thanks to so many of our Union brothers and sisters, leave donations carried him the distance. David Chevalier
