My Friend
I'll always remember the conversations we had. The flight we took going to Viet Nam. When I came home you were the first person I asked about. Then I was told. God bless you and may you rest in peace
I have been looking for some information on bowman, fought with him in Vietnam. I remember the day his track blew up with a 250 pound bomb with a shape charge at the bottom of l.z liz late one evening coming back from the field. He is the only friend I can remember having in 'Nam. He taught me all about to be safe and always talked about home.

We went, to Vietnam together

It took, a long time
Paul and I went, into the army, the same day. We went, to Fort Ord and then, to Fort Polk. Then back home, for a thirty, day, leave and then off, to Vietnam. We flew over, on the same, plane and then, to the 90's, camp, waiting, to see what outfit, we would be assigned. I had hoped, that we would both, make it back. I didn't find out, that Paul had died until, I came back. Vietnam, has taken it's toll, on me and many other, veterans. It's hard to believe, that Paul, is gone. But he, will always be, a hero.

When Berkeley California built a memorial to those who died in the Vietnam War locals felt that Paul Bowman Jr should be included because he went to Berkeley Schools and was known to lots of people although a resident of a neighboring town.

We Remember
Paul is buried at Sunset Valley Cemetery in Berkeley, CA

My heart is still aching
It is so sad there are no remembrances for Paul Bowman. He was the best friend I had in Vietnam. We were in C Troop 3/4 Cavalry. We talked almost every night in the short periods we had before it was time to start guard duty. He talked of his plans when he got back home and of his girlfriend. I saw her picture a hundred times. He was a big guy, soft spoken, and I think of him on a regular basis. He just wanted to get his job done and get back home. I wish there was a way to tell his family that there is someone out here who had the highest regard for Paul. His death was the only time I cried in country, and the last time I would allow myself to have such a friend. I can be contacted at jstev846@jps.net in Marysville, California. I fervently hope that his family can find out that Paul Bowman did not die an ignominious death. He has lived these last thirty-two years in my mind
