To perpetuate the memory of the USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) and those shipmates who served in USS NIMITZ, embarked Staffs, Squadrons and Detachments, both prior to and after commissioning, and to promote and maintain the spirit of camaraderie that existed among those who served in USS NIMITZ. The purpose includes:
Locating former shipmates and urging their active participation in the Association.
Planning and arranging Reunions at such other times as voted on by a majority of the members.
Providing active support to the Navy's Recruiting Program through personal contact with highly qualified candidates for Navy enlisted and officer programs.
Establishing a competitive scholarship program for sons and daughters of current crewmembers serving in USS NIMITZ (CVN-68), and embarked Staffs. Squadrons and Detachments; and sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters of Association Members "in good standing".
Collecting mementos, pictures, plaques, artifacts, insignia, cruise books, papers, letters and other memorabilia relating in any way to pre-commissioning, commissioning and service in USS NIMITZ. Such items may be maintained by individual contributing members and shared at Association gatherings or donated to the Association for historical preservation. "The Memorabilia Storekeeper will hold such "donated" items in custody."
